Doug was born and raised in Pennsylvania. At age 20, he moved to the state of Washington and has remained every since. In 1986 he joined The Mountaineers in Seattle, and has enjoyed a lifetime of mountaineering adventures in Norway, New Zealand, United States, and Nepal. From his early years, Doug exhibited many artistic talents, in particular his musical abilities, as well as calligraphy and painting small figures from Dungeons and Dragons. For Christmas 2016, he received a Bob Ross painting kit, which consisted of one canvas, 6 tubes of paint, two brushes, a pallet knife, and a DVD with one Joy of Paining episode. The rest is history. Each year he continues to develop his painting style, and uses a wide variety of material to paint mountain scenery. Tile, wood, and Canvas are his favorites. And the occasional work burning art (pyrography). Doug believes that artwork is a language all to itself and can communicate emotions and feelings to all people, regardless of language or cultural barriers. With thousands of followers on Instagram, Doug stays busy communication with fellow artists and friends through social media.
